Can AI Flip the World Upside Down?
나는 2025년 말 OpenClaw(사람들을 열광케 한 AI 에이전트) 때부터 AI 에이전트 활용을 시도해 왔다.

Watching how people react to certain events, a thought keeps coming to me. I have no intention of blaming anyone’s personal opinion or personal judgment. But at least supporting war is something I cannot understand by my own common sense. Someone dies, and not just dies, but someone is put in a position where they must kill. Whether that can be something people support, I honestly do not know.
“I Wish a War Would Break Out”
And yet, now and then I see people say, “I wish a war would break out.” In news comments and online communities, it is easy enough to come across such remarks. There was a post that said, I might die, but I still wish a war would break out (the reason that post gave was hostility). There was also a post, written lightly, that said, my stocks crashed, so I would rather have a war with Japan.
For a while I took it as a joke, or something thrown out without thinking. But as I kept coming across these stories, the reasons varied, yet in some of them I read a wish to flip over one’s present situation, words that come out when you cannot see a way forward on your own. A wish for the world to flip over even if it puts my own life at risk. Of course, some of those words come from jokes or from hostility, so I am not saying everyone feels this way. It is not something I confirmed with a published survey either. It is how I read it, within the range of what I have come across.
To answer first: the world did not flip. But for me, one place to stand has opened up. This piece is not an answer for the world. It is the answer of one person.
The Distance the News Shows
On October 13, Money Today estimated that a department-head-level employee in Samsung Electronics’ memory division (on an annual salary of 110 million won) would receive about 1 billion won in bonuses this year, and that with the top rating it could reach the middle of the 1-billion-won range, around 1.5 billion won. That estimate assumes an operating profit forecast of 370 trillion won. In an article about a Bank of Korea report on future private consumption, News24 reported that the bonuses Samsung Electronics and SK hynix will pay next year are expected to reach 60 trillion won. The article did not give a source for that figure. The emergency relief payments given to every citizen during COVID in 2020 came to the 14 trillion won range, so on projected figures that is roughly four times as much.
It is those companies’ performance, earned by those companies’ employees, and yet there are people who raise questions about the bonuses, attaching all kinds of preamble and reasoning. In fact, in a survey that Elim-net Now&Survey conducted in early May among 1,310 adults nationwide, 74.7% said the bonus levels at the two companies are high, and 50.2% said social discussion is needed. That is background showing that many people see the bonus levels as high. The news headlines I mentioned are also the kind that raise the question “Is this right?” rather than praising their achievement. I am not trying to belittle their performance. I just understand where the question comes from. When numbers like these pile up, a feeling grows that this is a game where my effort does not matter, and at the end of it, words like “I wish it would all get flipped over once” seem to come out. A person whose stocks crashed and a person left deflated by the bonus news have different reasons, but my guess is that both feel they cannot see a way forward on their own right now. I am not saying that everyone who wants a war feels this way.
People Who Do Not Start From the Same Place
People who want the world to flip seem to foresee that if the world does not flip, they will keep living like this, and the other side will keep living like that. Polarization has deepened, and they think there is probably no way to narrow the gap between the two ends.
I agree with the diagnosis that the gap has hardened. But I do not agree that the prescription is war. Whether it is a position with that kind of bonus, a doctor, or a lawyer, these are not positions anyone can get. According to National Tax Service data for tax year 2024, a doctor’s average business income per person is over 400 million won, and a lawyer’s is 106 million won, a difference of about four times (this is business income after expenses, so it differs from salary). From the environment people are born into to the environment they are educated in, people live with truly too many gaps.
At the rural high school where I grew up, teachers encouraged students to sleep with their heads down during class, and because they could not answer students’ questions, they told us not to ask and limited question time. At that rural school I was a top-ranked student, but if I went out to a city even a little, I was a student who scored less than half.
By comparison, children raised in reasonably well-off families in the city built habits (good for getting a bonus like that or becoming a doctor), were given an environment where they could study, and were pushed to do so. Of course, not everyone is like that, and not everyone who grew up that way ends up in those positions.
Even so, in the end, positions with high salaries and bonuses like those are likely, in terms of probability, to be taken by children who started in good environments. It is not that a dragon can never rise from a small stream, but that it is becoming rarer is my own sense of it.
The AI That Gave Me a New Starting Point
On a field where the ranking was already settled, someone like me, who started late in the ranking by academic background, felt there was no way to get ahead. But with AI, for the first time, I seem to have seen a field where the lines have not fully formed yet.
Recently, through using AI, I have been having new thoughts and meeting new environments. The biggest of them is that it has offered me a new starting point.
I have been trying to use AI agents since late 2025, since OpenClaw (the AI agent that got people excited).
It has been nearly a year now as I write this, but that AI agents became genuinely usable happened, in my environment, only two or three months ago. Until April and May this year, hallucination (when AI makes up lies) was severe, in the environments I came across the period was one of banning the upload and use of materials for security reasons, and PC control was also very weak.
I am not someone who stops at “it doesn’t work,” so every time a new model or agent came out, I repeatedly retried what had not worked before. From that experience, I feel that only after July and August this year did agents become practically usable in my environment. With a well-built setup, some of it was possible even before that, but usable with bare hands only from that point on.
As a result, over two days, October 26 and 27, I built an AI service demo for a client proposal. It had 40 screens, 3 languages, and 158 tests. As a rule, I check results not by what the AI said but by whether the tests pass. What mattered to me was that I now had something I could talk about through the things I made, instead of my academic background.
What is more interesting is that even before that, if you built a pipeline (a structure that breaks work into steps) and gates (steps that check pass conditions with code) really well, using agents the way we do now was possible to some extent. But because of an AI that lies, it said unfinished things were finished and things that did not work were working, so proper outputs did not come out.
Using AI agents well to get work done, make projects and work more efficient, and improve the work environment felt, to me at least, like a field I could start anew. In the classic ranking I still cannot get ahead, but it makes me wonder whether I might get ahead under a new standard.
Of course, this is not to say it is the same field for everyone. An AI agent is a tool that lets me do what I could already do more efficiently and in greater volume; it is not a magic tool that does what I could not do. So even with the same tool in hand, what people get from it is bound to differ. People who already have more may get even more. That is why I will not say AI narrows the gap. I will only say that one path became visible to me.
I have worked at small companies and startups, pushed out of the ranking. During the day I sat in meetings all day, at night I developed alone, and when told to go out and sell, I went; when told to go install a product, I went; when there was an IR event, I went along; when a proposal was needed, I wrote it. It was because I thought that, since I fell short on quantitative scores, it was in my favor to widen and blur the evaluation criteria. Thanks to that, even if not deeply, I broadly knew where to do what work, and perhaps that is why the range of areas where I can use AI was wider than other people’s. What I feel ahead on is that I took this in and used it quickly, but that difference is only a couple of months’ worth, and it could vanish quickly once others catch up. What remains after it vanishes is probably the breadth of knowing many kinds of work and the habit of opening the result and checking it myself. So this is a starting point gained in the short window before the lines form. It is not a position guaranteed for long; being able to start now is all I can say.
That is why I tell this story. Whatever kind of work you have done so far, the place where that work meets AI can become that person’s starting point, just as mine came from the odd jobs I did.
If I have one thing to tell someone starting now, it is this: stop agonizing and just give it work, one thing at a time. Pick one small repeated task and hand it over, and when it says it is done, open the result and check it yourself. For example, hand over a weekly data-organizing chore, and when it says it is done, check a few of the organized numbers against the original. AI still says unfinished work is finished.
A Place That Is New for Me
For me, AI feels like a technology that gave me a new starting point. The world did not flip. One place where I can stand was newly created.
Of course, when I see job postings that still want a bachelor’s degree or higher from a top university, I think, “See, my world did not flip after all.” I do not know yet whether this new standard will lead to actual pay or hiring. Even when a new field appears, the old one stays as it was. That is my honest state right now.
